lunedì 31 ottobre 2005 | POSTDOCTORAL POSITION at the EEG Brain Mapping and Neurophysiology Core of the “Centre d’imagerie Biomédicale (CIBM)” in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in the EEG Brain Mapping and Neurophysiology Core of a multi-institutional center located both in Lausanne and Geneva. This center is a joint initiative of the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois (CHUV), University of Lausanne (UNIL), Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL), Hopitaux Universitaires de Geneve (HUG), and University of Geneva (UNIGE).
This is an exciting opportunity to join a multi-disciplinary team of researchers both within the EEG core itself, as well as within the other core facilities of the CIBM and its contributing institutions. The successful candidate will contribute to a vigorous research program that complements ongoing studies in all areas of sensory/cognitive neuroscience in humans. The candidate will have access to state-of-the-art EEG (64 to 256-channel systems), MRI (3 and 7 Tesla scanners), TMS, and signal analysis facilities.
We are particularly seeking candidates with strong research backgrounds in simultaneous EEG-fMRI recordings, but will also consider candidates with experience in the following areas: cognitive and clinical neuroscience using brain imaging techniques (EEG, MEG, fMRI, TMS), and computational and statistical methods for EEG and/or fMRI analysis. Programming skills are desired as well as experience in planning and implementing experimental designs for combined EEG-fMRI recordings. Qualified candidates must possess a PhD. In addition to research, the successful candidate will be expected to function as one of the staff of the EEG core facility in Lausanne and to assist in instructing and supervising other groups using these facilities.
The duration of this position is initially for 2-3 years with the potential for prolongation. The candidate for this position will be principally based in Lausanne. Knowledge of French is beneficial for everyday life in the region, but is not a requirement for the position itself.
Please email a CV, pre/re-prints, a statement of research interests and career goals, and contact information for three references by e-mail to both: Christoph.michel@medecine.unige.ch and micah.murray@chuv.ch

Prof. Salvatore M. Aglioti
POST DOCTORAL POSITION IN COGNITIVE NEUROSCIENCE
Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Cognitive Neuroscience at Department of Psychology
University of Rome, "La Sapienza" and Fondazione Santa Lucia IRCCS, Rome.
As part of the rapidly expanding cognitive neuroscience and neurophysiology
research at Department of Psychology University of Rome " La Sapienza" and
Fondazione Santa Lucia, I' m seeking one 2 -year postdoctoral fellow to join a group studying a) the contribution of somatic, visual, and motor systems to the construction and maintenance of body schema; and b) neural substrates of sensorimotor aspects of empathy in brain damaged patients and normal subjects.. I particularly seek someone who is interested in working as part of aresearch team, and in developing collaborative projects across more than one area of research. Applicants should be able to work independently as well as to co-operate with other members of the research team. Prior experience with TMS or clinical neuropsychology will be appreciated. The successful candidate would join a team of 6 postgraduate students led by Professor Salvatore M Aglioti.
This highly interactive group collaborates on a range of studies on various
aspects of plasticity in sensorimotor domain, neural representations underlying
imitation and corporeal awareness. A particular interest of part of the group is the rehabilitation and brain plasticity of sensorimotor and spatial functions. Thus, an interest of some sort in rehabilitation would be an advantage. Research in the laboratory also investigates sensorimotor aspects of empathy through a combination of neurophysiological (TMS, SEPs and LEPs) and psychophysical techniques in normal and brain damaged humans.
A large overlap of research interests exists between Salvatore M Aglioti's
group and the functional brain imaging group at Fondazione Santa Lucia. The
combination of electrophysiological, functional brain imaging, and
neuropsychological methodologies across the two groups gives a highly stimulating and productive environment for a young scientist with a PhD in cognitive neuroscience or neuropsychology. The facilities include TMS. SEPs and LEPs recording, fMRI (at the Fondazione Santa Lucia), sophisticated equipments for studying eye movements and excellent access to all clinical groups working in a high specialty neurorehabilitation research centre (Fondazione Santa Lucia).
Candidates should hold a PhD in cognitive neuroscience, cognitive psychology or
neuropsychology. Applicants should have a strong background in neurophysiology,
neuropsychology or cognitive neuroscience. A sound knowledge of experimental
design and statistical methods is expected. Programming experience with Matlab is very desirable. The appointment, which will be available from December 1st 2005 (flexible starting date) will be offered for a period of two years. Renewal for two further years is possible. Salary will be commensurated to experience.
Deadline: Until position is filled.
Contact: Please send CV together with a list of publications, summary of research experience and research interest and two letters of reference to the address listed below.

SUMMER SCHOOL on DECISION PROCESSES FIRST EDITION
Rationality and irrationality in decision making: The role of intuition and emotion.
30 June – 3 July 2008
The aim of the Summer School is to provide participants with the opportunity to attend high-level lectures followed by
discussions and to present their own research projects in order to have constructive feedback. The general goal is to
foster the circulation of new ideas and methodologies and to promote the establishment of contacts among participants.
The focus of the first edition of the Summer School is the relationships between rational and irrational aspects of
decision-making and, specifically, the role played by intuition and emotion in this process.
The Summer School will be structured as follows:
Main lectures which deal with a specific issue related to the general theme;
Workshops where participants will present their research projects;
Poster session which will give participants the opportunity to present their further research data.
A website and a platform will support the activities of the Summer School and the materials will be collected in a book
published in English.
The invited lecturers are the following:
GERD GIGERENZER Max Planck Institute (Germany)
BILL HARBAUGH University of Oregon and NBER (USA)
ROBIN HOGARTH Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona (Spain)
MARCEL ZEELENBERG University of Tillburg (The Netherlands)
The Summer School is addressed to Ph.D. students coming from different countries and to researchers interested in
decision making. There will be two different way of presence:
Full attendance, including admission to all the sessions, presentation of one’s own research project followed by
lecturers’ comments and discussions, optional presentation of poster(s), if accepted, access to the platform and to the
uploaded materials and forum, submission of a paper for possible inclusion in the book. Full attendance fees: 300.00
euros. Deadline to send the CV and 1-page abstract of the research project: March 31, 2008; acceptance will be notified
within April 7.
Part-time attendance, including admission to the second and third lectures, subsequent discussion and the possibility to
present a poster, if accepted, and to take part in the subsequent discussion. Part-time attendance fees are 65.00 euros.
Deadline to send an abstract (150-250 words) of the poster: May 15, 2008; acceptance of posters will be notified within
May 22.
